So, I was driving home last night, and I came (once again) to the realization that people in cars are just nuts. Well, they are in UT, anyway. For everyone's safety, I feel it necessary to give a little refresher course on driving laws and etiquette.
1. Blinker/Turn Signal
According to law, you MUST signal 2-5 seconds before making ANY turn. Not using one's turn signal is to assume that everyone else can read minds and knows exactly what one is going to do. I don't think there are many people in this world who can read minds, and those who can probably have other things they need to think about rather than pay attention to who is going to change lanes or turn a corner. Besides, every time someone doesn't use their signal, the Devil claims a soul. This is serious business, folks. For your eternal salvation, use your turn signal!!
2. Following Distance
The law says you must keep one car's length between your car and the car you're following. I don't think many people are following this law, because as I was driving home last night, I was being followed at a distance that I was scared that if I so much as tapped my brakes, the person in the truck behind me was going to screw up my car's rear end. Now, some of my readers might suggest that I speed up, but I was already at the speed limit and where I live, cops are EVERYWHERE. I didn't want to get pulled over after a 10 hour shift because some idiot behind me couldn't keep a proper following distance. Y'know, this brings me to my third point....
3. Speed Limit
I don't think it's an actual law, but the rule of thumb is that one is allowed to go 5 mph over the speed limit without consequence. One is not, however, allowed to go less than 5 mph under the speed limit except in cases of bad weather or road obstacles. So, when I'm going exactly the speed limit, please don't close the following distance in hopes that I'll speed up. I'll very likely slow down to the 5 mph under just to piss off the person behind me, and when I'm rear-ended, it will be all their fault for speeding and not maintaining a proper following distance. HA.
4. Cell Phones
I just have one thing to say about cell phones and cars: HANG UP AND DRIVE. If it's so important that one simply MUST answer the phone or text, at least pull the car over so the rest of us on the road don't have to scream and swerve out of the way because the person on the phone isn't paying attention to anything but the freaking phone. Thank you.
That's all for tonight. Please remember these points as you drive, and you just might find yourself being honked at less, and probably not die or cause an accident.

Why This Blog?
Once upon a time, in a small town in the mid-western USA, a young woman got fed up with ignorant, disrespectful people. She had been working in retail and food industries for around five years, and, being very observant, learned quickly not to expect much from customers, co-workers, and sometimes even management.
So, one night, after closing at her job, she decided to start a blog to inform people of the proper way to behave in public. And thus, "Manners Manifesto" was born.
Though this will often be a serious blog, be prepared for the authoress to be silly, random, and a bit nerdy.
Thank you in advance for following me; I appreciate all your support toward my goal of a better-mannered general populace.
